You wake up. You get dressed. You groan. You shower. Not necessarily in that order. Then you, or at least I, affix headphones to my ears and leave the house. Those who know me pass comment on the fact that I am rarely disconnected from some form of musical provider.
I’ve lived overseas for some time now and left much of my music in hard form somewhere in storage. My vinyl, my CDs, all gathering dust in the corner of some shed. But armed with an iPod, I brought as much of that with me as possible. Alas, one ill begotten day, my iPod fatally crashed never to be resurrected again and I was forced to make do with lesser forms of music provision. It has however resulted in the accumulation of vast amounts of albums – whether that be entire back catalogues of groups I’ve always intended to listen to or singles recommended to me by others.
Like everyone, I tend to stick with what I know. Of course, I go through phases of trying out new sounds, but inevitably, I return to the music that I feel most at home with.
However, the other day, I was hit with the discovery that I had literally thousands of albums that I had downloaded with the intention of listening which I had never, ever broached – well, some perhaps once. Covering a wide range of genres from dub to black metal, classical to jazz to hardcore, there was a whole world of music that I had never heard lying a mere click away from me.
Since then, I’ve deleted my mp3 player and reloaded with music I haven’t listened to and with this blog, I intend to pore through hours upon hours of music and provide some sort of review. At first, these albums must be at the very least new to me or barely listened – and if time permits, perhaps one day, this will contain a review of every album I have ever possessed.
